1916 Café & Restaurant
A café older than the country it sits in, kept vegetarian out of respect for the river it overlooks.

“The café is older than the country it sits in.”
Every Banaras morning since the year it opened, the 1916 Café has poured chai for travellers and pilgrims alike. It has never once served meat, because the Ganga it overlooks asks for that restraint.
Come for a complimentary breakfast with fresh tea and coffee before the boats go out, then a baati-chokha or chole-kulche by day, the special thali at noon, a thick Banarasi lassi, and, for a few cold weeks a year, the malaiyo that exists nowhere else.
